If you know me, then you know I LOVE my coffee. I am one of those people that gets out of bed because I know there is a hot cup of coffee waiting for me. Over the years, I have developed an almost addiction to coffee (4-6 cups a day). A few weeks ago, my eyes started to twitch, I had low energy and realized I was more on edge. I knew I was stressed, but I realized that I was probably over-caffeinated too. Since I am an all or nothing type person, I decided on a Monday morning I was going to switch to decaf. Surprisingly, the first 2 days I only had a slight headache which was easily cured by taking Tylenol. Wednesday rolled around and I felt a little sluggish based on a bad night sleep (thanks to a certain 10 month old). The rest of the week, I was surprised that my energy levels were about the same or slightly higher and I was feeling so much more at ease mentally.
It has been a week and a half now and I am still caffeine free. I have about 5 cups of decaf a day, but I am hoping to cut that back soon (warmer weather please!). I am taking it one step at a time and while I haven’t cut coffee out completely, I no longer crave the surge of energy from the caffeine. It is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to something 🙂 and even more amazing how habits dictate what we do on a daily basis.
